Mixed Media Works
Literally, my work is about the destruction
of the environment; from the casual annihilation of life to the
effects that encroachments and the destruction of the environment
have on wildlife. Layered within the literal is the metaphorical
dimensions of the work which have to do with my personal relationships
and the treatment of humans by one another. It deals with the
struggles within relationships; the disappointments, desire, regret,
love, anger, and consequences of choice. Ultimately the work on
both levels, literal and metaphorical, deals with the underlying
themes of fear, abuse, and control.
The principal interest for me with my work
is to gain an emotional response from the viewer. I would like
to use my art as a tool to communicate the injustices that I have
witnessed and to make viewers conscious of these indignities which
have become numb commonalties in our society.
The combination of photography and other
media has always intrigued me. I have found it to be a challenge
to successfully combine photography with direct media, such as
painting and drawing, concluding with a cohesive product. It has
been this challenge that leads to my current work, which is a
combination of photography, etching, painting, and drawing. Visual
layering is an important step in this process and in turn is a
reflection of the various messages and intentions of the work.
I enjoy the actual and visual textures and layers that result
from combining different media. In this manner there is a metamorphosis
within each piece that represents the multiplicity of the content
of the image
